Girls on Top

Today’s releases are dedicated to the most fascinating creatures there are. But boys can read them too. ;)

  • Girlfriend Vol 2 Ch 6~8
Yes, you read correctly. That’s not one, not two, but three new chapters of our arguably most popular project (after just one volume, it already surpassed Chokotto Sister!*). How did we manage to do that? One word: boke. No, I’m not talking manzai here. Boke is the person you should thank for your Girlfriend fix. Like manna from heaven, he appeared from nowhere, offered to translate this series for us, and finished half of the second volume before you could say “Nandeyanen?!!”

And so we bring you three more exciting stories about boys and girls and the complicated, yet irresistible force that draws them together. Chapter 6 is the long-awaited continuation of the first story in volume 1. Chapter 7 and 8 introduce two new couples whose story will be continued in the third volume. Expect another update pretty soon, in which I promise to explain the deeper meaning behind the manga’s title. ;)

      * Don’t believe me? Check out this cool flash clip made by a Girlfriend fan (Thanks again!). If only we had more dedicated readers like him. :)

  • Sweet Blue Flowers Vol 1 Ch 3-4 & 5-6 & 7
Does this series live up to its title or what? Rarely has yuri been sweeter and more tender than this.
  • Hanashippanashi Vol 1 Ch 8-11
Here are four new invitations to dream. Will you join us? And remember, Hanashippanashi’s magic will only work if you free your mind and stop wondering about the how’s or why’s. Just let the stories guide you. Who knows, maybe you’ll even see the world around you in a slightly different way afterwards.

  5. Another quality release. Hanashippanashi really shows off just how imaginitive (or high) Igarashi can be. Not as good as Witches (lets face it, few things are). Gilfriend is also developing quite nicely. Personally, I’d rather see the rest of Music (you can never be thanked enough for translating this amazing project), but I guess ya got to give the people what they want.

    Sarah April 16, 2006 @ 9:05 pm

  18. Nice choice with Hanashippanashi, NS. I finally bought myself all of Igarashi’s books and this one reminds me of a poetry collection. With 6-10 pages you don’t need to establish much of anything, and it allows for some fun (if fleeting) moments. And it’s at least better than Little Forest.

    stephen April 17, 2006 @ 4:05 am

  19. “And it’s at least better than Little Forest. ”
Really? I was kind of hyped up about that because of the recent Tezuka nod. Can you elaborate?

    Huff April 17, 2006 @ 11:25 pm

  20. It’s almost like a primer on agricultural life in rural Japan (Ohmori specifically). Every chapter deals with or describes the way to cultivate/scavenge some kind of vegetable, or cook a certain type of food. It’s interesting as a snapshot of a very different lifestyle but there is only the barest, barest backbone of a story involved, and you can’t taste any of the food or crops (of which the vast majority is unfamiliar, at least to me). So it’s hard for me to recommend other than as a curiosity, really.

    stephen April 18, 2006 @ 1:42 am

  21. What the hell, people? How can you like Girlfriend? Each and every story contains the most vile, disgusting whore imaginable. Geh… you people are sick.

    WTF April 18, 2006 @ 5:02 am

  22. I think “Hanashippanashi”’s primary forte is its incredible wealth of ideas. Each story presents a unique premise and execution. It’d certainly be interesting to see the author explore a few of those ideas further, yet I can’t help but think that doing so would rob the stories of a part of their magic. It’s one of those series whose sum is bigger than its parts–a work that conveys deep respect and admiration for nature and the world around us.

@WTF: LOL, thanks for the free advertising! You’re right, though. Here at Kotonoha, we like our girls slutty and perverted. If you can’t deal with that, I suggest you look elsewhere.

    Nomad Soul April 18, 2006 @ 9:56 am

  23. Huh…so it’s basically edu-manga. I could see myself looking into it, but it’s disapointing to hear it isn’t one of his “f!@# your mind” series. The Tezuka’s have had some odd picks in the past, so I guess I shouldn’t be suprised.
But I agree about the charm of Hanashippanashi being the brief and whimsical nature of the stories. While I’d love to see some longer, deeper and more epic stories like he has in Witches, it would take away alot of the mystery.

    Huff April 18, 2006 @ 10:00 pm

  24. Manga http back and updated with the latest stuff

    myran-san April 19, 2006 @ 9:02 am

  25. Thank you, myran-san!! ^o^

    Sakuya April 19, 2006 @ 3:45 pm

  26. Yeah, great to see you back, myran-san. Hope the server will be here to stay. :)

    Nomad Soul April 19, 2006 @ 5:33 pm

  27. oh gosh. girlfriend just keeps getting better and better. Nomad you tease! There’s a deeper meaning behind all this? Well I’ll pretend not to have heard and I shall patiently wait until you and the rest of the amazing people working on this project get to that point. I wonder if your forum is going to come back online someday. I miss it, even though I ‘ve been quite busy myself lately.

    iao April 20, 2006 @ 3:47 pm

  28. WTF, you would call me a whore, I suspect. ;) Those things can happen for complicated reasons, really, and I’m speaking from personal experience.

Anyway, I liked what I’ve seen of Girlfriend. The initial impression I got of it just being all about sex sort of had me putting off reading it, but the motivations they have are what makes it interesting.
