Catching Up…
Just a few stuff to prove that we aren’t completely neglecting our old projects in favor of the new ones:
- Hanashippanashi v1 ch12-15
- Chokotto Sister v4 ch28-29
The anime series is scheduled to start on the 13th of July and will run for 24 episodes. *w00t* - Girlfriend v3 ch11-12
Of course, we have new chapters of the juggernaut called Kilico as well.
I’d like to thank everyone who participated in our last poll. The result is pretty telling, but I don’t want to rule out the possibility of an IRC channel just yet. We’ll see how Kotonoha performs in the next half year. In our new poll, you have the chance to tell us what you like to see more from this group in the future. I’ve always been proud of Kotonoha’s diversity but I think it’s time for us to focus, especially if we were to pick up more long-running projects in the upcoming months/years.
The poll’s results weren’t really suprising. I voted for alternative because your one of the two (?) scanslators who are actually willing to put out experimental stuff, but to be honest I’d be very happy with more standard seinen stories (I guess Ikki could be considered experimental though) or a josei project in the vein of Kyoko Okazaki or Nananan Kiriko.
Huff May 26, 2006 @ 8:54 pm
Wow, I can see the josei/yuri option shrinking by the second. D:
I really do love seinen, so I’m happy, but it’s so hard to find a really good josei… (which, incidentally, I’ve found here, so thanks!)
ellie_i May 26, 2006 @ 9:42 pm
Thanks for the new releases! ^_^
I’m surprisingly reading ‘Kilico’…
What is ‘alternative’ manga?
badtzmaru May 26, 2006 @ 10:18 pm
“What is ‘alternative’ manga?”
I guess it’s open to interpritation. Some may say it’s underground manga (as in not published by a big company), but some of the major companies publish titles that many people would consider alternative. I’d define it as a manga that’s progressive, experimental and openly goes against traditional conventions. Alot of Kotonoha’s one shots could be considered alternative in my opinion. I personally don’t like the term when used to describe American comics or manga, as for some people the term suggests stories that are overly artsy and pretensious. Of course, I really don’t have a better term…
Huff May 27, 2006 @ 12:19 am
Oh, I see~ Thanks for explaining, Huff! I can vote now. ^_^
badtzmaru May 27, 2006 @ 1:40 pm
I’m a fan of kotona (for a long time) for it’s alternative manga. I would therefore like that pearls like marie’s music and such have a appearing in the scanlation-community, favourable by kotonah. (BTW: marie’s music, is it still beeing actif? (I was the guy who nagged about that on the forums, if you remember))
vulpixlb May 27, 2006 @ 3:10 pm
YES! New Girlfriend and Chokoto Sister…thanks guys!
mana May 28, 2006 @ 4:04 am
The status of Marie depends entirely on zubari, who is currently busy jobhunting in Japan. Once he settles down, we might actually be able to keep up our seasonal release pace. ^^;;
Nomad Soul May 28, 2006 @ 4:23 am
Thank you for the release. You just made my day!
iao May 28, 2006 @ 6:25 am
Hey, I’m tempted to start reading Chokotto Sister, but there’s sooo many chapters now. But the anime’s out soon, hmm.
Could someone give their opinion on Chokotto Sister please? ^^
voxie May 28, 2006 @ 6:55 am
“The status of Marie depends entirely on zubari, who is currently busy jobhunting in Japan.”
That would explain it. I wish him luck, and of course thank him for helping to bring us one of (if not the) the best mangas being scanslated.
“Could someone give their opinion on Chokotto Sister please? ^^”
I guess it depends if you like that genre of manga. I’m not a big fan of it, and I found CS to be a little too cliched for my taste, but I will say that it’s well done and better than most examples of the genre. So if your already interested in it from the description you’ll probobly love it.
Huff May 28, 2006 @ 11:38 am
Too bad Josei is getting so few votes… Though IMHO, the diversity is one of the strong points of kotonoha. But considering the poll in question being about focusing, it’d be meaningless to make “Seinen & Josei” etc. options in it.
I’ll stand behind my words, if I have to pick one, seinen it is.
Jinchi May 31, 2006 @ 4:07 am
Well, focusing doesn’t mean that we will only do one kind of manga. We have a few cool josei projects lined up that we will do eventually. I guess Kotonoha’s future line-up will still consist of the three pillars seinen, josei and alternative. Only the distribution will shift towards seinen. I have to admit that it’s surprisingly tough to choose a good seinen series, though. Hopefully, the ones we have in mind will achieve the desired effect. ^^
Nomad Soul May 31, 2006 @ 4:44 am
Voted for Josei/Yuri… :p But I enjoyed reading the many one-shots. Presently, apart from following your Josei/Yuri series, I like Seizon Life too. Although I don’t really understand many of the one-shots that you have released, I really like Happy Together, which was very nice and sweet .
It’s just my thought, but I think the unpredictable and lesser-known (yet just as good as the popular) variety of work you release is why I like Kotonoha. It’s a nice surprise for each release as I never know when it’s angsty (Ayu), sweet (Cotton), gripping (Seizon Life), different (Girlfriend) etc…
The one theme is that they are all very good, very enjoyable and very under-appreciated works.
Thanks again for all your hard work!
If possible, can someone give some insight into the sibling love in Girlfriend. I like the pairing but I don’t really understand the tag game they are playing…?
Beatrix May 31, 2006 @ 5:13 am
thanks a lot for this, i really aprecciate your work ^^
my choice was for alternative D:
silent June 2, 2006 @ 12:54 pm
We clearly need some hardcore seinen/alt stuff soon or else we’ll be buried under cute fluff like, err, Binbou Shimai. I swear this is gonna be our last fun project for a long, long time. ^^;;
Nomad Soul June 2, 2006 @ 6:42 pm
Haha.
Hmm… any idea what Minetaro Mochizuki is up to these days?
I liked Dragon Head, as well as I did Zashiki Onna, which we sadly were never able to finish. Never read Samehada-otoko to Momojiri-onna but atleast the movie adaptation was entertaining.
I’m not really that skilled in japanese to look up myself what the mangakas do currently, if anything…
Jinchi June 2, 2006 @ 7:33 pm
Whoopsie… Should’ve done better googling first. The french sites always have better info. Apparently he is doing “Maiwai” which from the covers, http://www.mangaverse.net/html/maiwaicouvjap.htm , seems to be about… hell… I don’t have a clue what this is about…
Jinchi June 2, 2006 @ 7:40 pm
I think Mochizuki is still doing “Maiwai” in Young Magazine: http://www.yanmaga.kodansha.co.jp/ym/rensai/ym/maiwai/maiwai.html
Never read it, but it looks interesting.
Apropos Young Magazine, I should take a closer look at that new series of Minoru Furuya. The first chapter was somewhat intriguing. Of course, Furuya has created yet another pathetic looser as lead, but the idea he could actually turn this into a thriller is cool enough to warrant further reading.
Nomad Soul June 2, 2006 @ 7:52 pm
LOL, do you guys have a real life too?
Sheesh, you’re firing the chaps out like other drink their beers.
Thanks a bunch
Elbart June 5, 2006 @ 5:12 pm
We’re just trying to get as much done as possible before the World Cup begins, after which you’ll likely see much less releases from us.
Nomad Soul June 5, 2006 @ 5:34 pm
Indeed, I don’t plan on editing much during the WC either.
Jinchi June 6, 2006 @ 2:14 am
Damn, two volumes of Kilco in less than a month. I must say I’m impressed. The series works pretty well as insane action in small doses. It’s going to be tough to go without these daily releases, especially since like every other American I can’t understand the appeal of socce…er “football.”
Huff June 6, 2006 @ 9:01 pm
Thanks for all your hard work on Kilico and also Seizon - Life
It’s a genuine treat to be seeing so much Kilico in a short period of time. I hope the quality of the WC matches will be as good and captivating as these series
Any favourites, besides perhaps your own country?
Lava June 7, 2006 @ 5:09 am
Netherworld! …land! Dutchess! … Holland, I mean.
Orange kit is just too gay not to be cheered on. Especially when they play very entertaining style.
Jinchi June 7, 2006 @ 10:49 am
Haha, it’s kinda tough to be living in Germany and not to be caught up in the “World Cup fever” at the moment. As for favorite team, I don’t have a particular one, but I will cheer on Japan too, of course. They performed well in the test match against Germany. If they can keep this up they might even survive the second round. ^^
Oh, and Kilico will go on as usual. But that’s an exception.
Nomad Soul June 7, 2006 @ 11:19 am
WC started, Germany is leading on half time of first match, I got preliminary edits of Kilico done. Everything’s cool ^^
Jinchi June 9, 2006 @ 11:57 am
Germany won but their defense still sucks. If it weren’t for their strikers they’d be screwed. ^^;;
Nomad Soul June 9, 2006 @ 6:10 pm
Have to agree on that, German central defence is woefully slow. Though on both CR goals it was Friedrich who fooked up the offside, I bet he was just returning home from an upwards rush and just didn’t realize the situation (I was a bit drunk already and didn’t catch what happened before the replays).
Jinchi June 9, 2006 @ 6:21 pm
Hi all,
I wanted to thank you for scanlating Kilico! It’s pretty damn good so far. I’d like to bring up a request though. Is it possible to also have HTTP links for the releases 22+ ? My school network has blocked bittorrent and in these past few days blocked irc also… So there’s no way to access the files anymore.. Thanks for listening to the request! And I hope others find out about this great manga too =)
If personal webspace / bw is limited, maybe one of the free sites like:
http://rapidshare.de/
http://www.megaupload.com/

Tim June 9, 2006 @ 9:29 pm
@Tim: You can download the chapters from Omanga site: http://www.omanga.net/?type=proj&cid=kilico
Nomad Soul June 10, 2006 @ 2:13 am
Thnx for the tip Nomad!
Tim June 10, 2006 @ 9:28 am
Wow guys. You’ve been releasing a chapter of Kilico nearly once a day. That’s pretty well set up.
Keep up the amazing work, guys!
HSuke June 10, 2006 @ 6:43 pm
Hi. Thanks for the cool releases. I’ve been practicing photoshop and I want to give a try for Editor job. I was wondering who and how I could contact.
Thanks.
animeaddicted June 11, 2006 @ 1:17 am
@animeaddicted: You (and all other applicants) can send the test to kotonoha [at] gmx [dot] net.
