Kotonoha: Dead and Gone?

Well, not quite just yet. However, you’re right to be doubtful, as Kotonoha sure looks a hell lot more dead than alive right now. It has nothing to do with our staff losing motivation and everything to do with the fact that I spent the last few months traveling, visiting friends and relatives abroad and working some shit out with my life. Things will stay busy for a while, but I don’t intend to abandon scanlating just yet. To those people who emailed me and got no response, I owe you my heartfelt apology and ask you for a bit more patience.

When Kotonoha returns, which I hope to be soon, some “restructering” will need to be done. We will have to drop a few projects and concentrate on those that still have some following. Don’t worry though, I have no intention to stray from the group’s original purpose, which is to bring you, dear readers, interesting and original mangas that are simply a bit less ordinary. We owe you no less.

P.S. Due to some spam influx, I had to deactivate the forum’s register function. It will go back up as soon as I manage to update our forum software to fix the problem.

Glad to hear that there’s chance of some more activity.

  3. Sure am happy to hear that!! I cannot wait till you’re back…

  4. We’ll stay here waiting.

  5. yay! I was worried this site quietly died in the past few months. Glad to know things are looking up.
Even though considering I pretty much love every kotonoha project I will be unhappy with some of them dropping.
    Oh well, life’s a bitch.

Take your time, exploring the world and dealing with real life issues and responsibilities! Perfectly understandible and it all feels (too) familiar. I’ll be patiently waiting; your projects and effort put into them are very much worth it! P.s. very comforting to have a sign of life :-)

  7. I am very glad that you are alive. You’re a apostols of scanlate. Manga you translate devilishly good.
    Russia bless you.

PS Please don’t drop Kiichi -_-

  8. Hasamura says:

    yay, that’s a good news!

  9. Yay, Kotonoha forever!

  10. SwordsRCool says:

Oh thank god. I was afraid kotonoha was just going to silently die and be gone without a trace. Yay!

  11. Nomad Soul says:

Thanks for the encouraging words, guys. It was pretty cool to take a break from everything and just spend some time going places, you know. Anyway, I’m back, and so is Kotonoha. :)

  12. Kaja Rainbow says:

I’m very glad to hear this! Best of luck with all this. Also, I’ve noticed some of your projects apparently being picked up by other groups, but I haven’t yet taken a look at their scanlations to see how good a job they did (and I’m not as knowledgeable about telling what’s a good job beyond the obvious lousy job).

  13. Yes! I’m so glad!

Here’s hoping that Hour of the Mice and Soil stay on! You guys are great at picking out series to translate. :)

  14. When can we expect more chapters of Chocotte Sister? It is the manga that I am most interested in.

  15. that’s great news – keep up the awesome work!

(and please don’t drop hourou musuko!)

Best of luck with all your projects, and worries if any.

Reading Kotonoha’s releases until know was great, and thanks to you guys I discovered quite a few artists that were thankfully available in my language (yay for the French manga market, they have all of Kiichi and Inio Asano and more). Reading Takako Shimura’s stories was great too. Also Kotonoha’s translation’s are really top-notch, even without knowing Japanese and comparing to the originals I can tell it’s really good.

I want to say, and this is only my opinion, that you should feel no moral obligation towards us. Don’t push yourself to get releases out if you don’t feel like going on with scanlating. Of course, if Kotonoha returns and great releases start pouring down on us, I’ll be delighted too.

On a side note: if Kotonoha ever needs help with webdesign, web development, and hosting, I’d be glad to offer some (or more). I work in this field. ;) You should have my email with this comment, or you can find it on my website.

  17. I’m hoping it won’t be too much longer for the remainder of Chokotto Sister.
I’ve got the translations done, it’s just a matter of getting the chapters lettered. I’ve been out of touch with Nomad Soul during his hiatus, but now that he’s back I’m hoping to be able to hear from him in the near future regarding this.

  18. Kamino Neko says:

Ralen – I know I’m not alone when I say ‘yay!’

  19. Styx Boatman says:

That’s great news indeed! Thank you…thank you…thank you..!

  20. great news at last! sorry I konw you have lot of things to take care for and do nothig to help you , hpe you can resolve everything, I am from the caribean were I cant get any of this manga, nor have the money to buy them trough internet so I am very gratefull for all your work, I have downloaded all the projects to the point they are and I like then all, would be very sad if any is droped but I know is a hard work and I will be glad if you could go on with any of then, specialy girlfriend, still dying for the rest, good luck with everything, and keep going with the good work

  21. Oh thank god. I was terrified that yet another of my cornerstone groups would be inactive. (a question, if you don’t mind answering: you won’t be dropping Soil, will you?)

  22. thedavemc says:

Hello :) nice to see there is still some life here, even if it maybe needs to drink a lot of coffee.

If you’re up for it I’d love to carry on with Shigurui. I’m sure you have noticed anonymous spore scanlated up to volume 10 in a matter of a few months. With that rate of releases and the quality of the series I expect it has got more of a following now and no more have been released in the past couple of months. I think there are raws available for about 15-20 more chapters so let me know if you fancy getting the defibrillator out on this one.

  23. Hi, I just wanted to beg you to not drop Ressentiment. Your collaboration with Mangascreener is the only ones scanlating it at the moment, and it doesn’t look like anyone else will pick it up if you drop it. Also, I’ve been looking at the original, and your translations seem to be the next best thing to reading it in Japanese (which still takes me over a week per volume, despite two years of study -_-). If you have to drop something, please make it projects which other groups ARE working on as well – even if it’s as “mainstream” as Chokotto Sister, though I do like your scanlations of that a lot as well.

  24. I would also like for Kiichi! to not be dropped. If the series is in need of an editor, I am MORE than willing to do it myself.

It’s extremely great to hear that Kotonoha could be back in business. This is one of my favorite groups and I would hate to see it die out completely.

  25. IM VERI HAPPY!!!

  26. I´m glad to hear this, I always loved Kotonoha and every series that you scanlated.Paticularly Hourou Musuko, Aoi Hana (YES!!We have an anime) and Music of Marie. I wish you the best things in your life o.~ Thanks for give us some feedback

  31. Mahoney says:
