Memories of Emanon

Ta-da! Our surprise is yet another new project, but it’s not just any manga. I consider Memories of Emanon one of the best books of 2008 and I can’t think of a better manga to end the year, hell, the whole dreadful decade, with. Based on the award-winning novel by Shinji Kajio, Memories of Emanon tells the story of a mysterious girl who holds a 3-billion-year old memory, dating back to the moment life first appeared on Earth. Kenji Tsuruta, having already served as the novel’s illustrator, returned to deliver what is certainly one of his finest works as an artist. Some of the pages in the manga are simply breathtakingly beautiful.

We are releasing the first half of this manga today and the other half next week before Kotonoha goes on vacation. I’d like to thank Meriken for his terrific translation. This project wouldn’t have been possible without him.

I was hoping to finish the first volume of All-Rounder Meguru before Christmas and with the help of the ever reliable Megchan we did. Today’s double releases conclude the first volume. I admit that one of the reasons why I decided to pick up this manga was to see if we could handle a more mainstream project with a broader appeal than the “usual” Kotonoha fare. However, it has grown on me a lot and judging from the 2nd volume it’s only going to get better.

Unfortunately, our decision to fast-track Meguru came with a price, namely the completion of The Music of Marie. But not to worry, the latter is still on track for being finished in the foreseeable future. To make up for the delay, we will pick up another manga by Usamaru Furuya when we return in mid-January.

Until then, an early Merry Christmas and a Happy New Year to all of you and yours! :)

  1. To Nomad Soul and all the other people working together to make Kotonaha what it is:

I wish you all a very good, happy and inspiring holiday. It sure is well-deserved. This has been a joyous year for all who love seinen; your return was a happy one, and I’m hoping for many happy returns in the future.

    All the best!

    ::midhras::

  2. Metsudragon says:

Thanks again for all of your work you guys, and hope everyone has a happy holiday!

  3. Memories of Emanon is so friggin awesome (so is All-Rounder Meguru). Thanks a lot! Guess i have to go get a widescreen display just for your releases. Great quality.

I hope you guys have nice holidays.

  4. Good releases, enjoy your holidays,

  5. what happened to chokotto sister? is it dropped?

  6. Nomad Soul says:

@suiton: ChokoSis is on hiatus till I figure out what to do with it. Now if you could wait a couple months (make it six would ya?) before asking about it again, I’d be a happy camper. ‘kay? thx.

  7. 6 more months? are you serious? it’s been ages since we’ve last gotten the full volume release or a chapter…

    T_T

  8. PitylessEnvy says:

@suiton: That’s about enough time for you to learn Japanese so you can stop complaining about releases!

  9. Ondrej Trhon says:

Aj! Memories of Emanon ends in the best part >_<

Btw, I will repeat myself – thx for Meguru :)

  10. Nomad Soul says:

@Ondrej: That wasn’t the end of Emanon. The best part is yet to come. :D

  11. The surprise you gave us is somehow even more glorious than I imagined. It’s such an original concept with beautiful art. The cover alone makes me drool. The double of Meguru is pretty damn sweet too. Thank you.

Merry Christmas everyone, except you suiton. Your Chokotto Sister comments on every update are very annoying, especially considering some other group finished up the series months ago in half-decent quality. Pretty much every manga Kotonoha works on is gold, so do us and yourself a favor and try something else. If you pull a Scrooge and learn the error of your ways, then I’ll wish you a merry one as well.

  12. Nomad Soul says:

For once, I’m actually glad that someone else finishes a project we started. ;)

  13. thank you for your hard work!

  14. I didn’t know Kenji Tsuruta worked on something new! Thanks so much!

  15. DamnedBones says:

Thanks guys and I hope you all enjoy your well deserved vacations :)

  16. Thank you for your releases!

Ahah, it looks like AFTER ALL Endo can’t give up on his yakuza bits XD

  17. hoho, is that the artist from ‘forget me not’?

    ho, happy holidays guys

  18. thanks kotonoha, and happy holidays!

  19. I love you.

  20. Are you planning to continue Hourou Musuko? (I can wait, but I don’t want to keep waiting if it isn’t going to happen)

    Thanks.

  21. Neohybrid_kai says:

Thanks for the hard works, I’m looking forward for the completion of Marie. And another Usamaru Furuya manga? that’s a wonderful present!

  22. >>Ahah, it looks like AFTER ALL Endo can’t give up on his yakuza bits XD

If you’ve read his rambling at the end of his 1st volume of short stories – he grew up surrounded by prostitutes (and most likely yakuza too) so it’s hard to blame him for being influenced by them…

BTW, just out of curiousity, is Enamon really the name in the original Japanese or is it adapted (i.e. figuratively not literally translated) to English?

  23. Memories is really impressive, reminds me a lot of Hitoshi Iwaaki’s work, but a lot more lush and detailed. Real shame it was a oneshot though. She’s the kind of character I can read volumes and volumes about and not get tired of.

  24. I love you too.

Don’t know if it’s just me, but I can’t download torrent files from the site. I always get a “problem loading page” error whenever i click on a release link. Right click + “Save As” doesn’t work neither.

@ FortMax: Hourou Musuko is currently scanlated by some anon. The latest chapter released is 80, if I remeber correct.

  25. Nomad Soul says:

@katydid: The manga’s original title is “Omoide Emanon” (omoide=a memory, a recollection) which is a bit tricky to translate into English. I think “Memories of Emanon” captures the ambivalent nature of the Japanese title rather well.

  26. Just finished Emanon, loved those color pages at the end. There seems to be a sequel called Sasurai Emanon. Are you planning to do it aswell, when you get your hands on good raws?

Wish you a Happy New Year.

  27. Thank you for the release!

  28. I’m getting the same ‘tracker unavailable/busy” error as Robin above. Hopefully it’s only temporary.

Anyway… this title sound wonderful concept-wise, and I loved the art in Forget-me-not by this mangaka . What a nice present. Thank you ^__^ . And a Happy New Year to all the staff ^^.
P-S.: I’ve just found out there’s a sequel for this volume.

Are you planning to do it as well?

  29. Kotonoha – thank you thank you for all the manga, happy new year..!!!!!!!!!!

  30. Well, well, this looks interesting. Happy Holidays, all~

  31. Emanon was such a nice, refreshing read.
It was an interesting contrast having the story move slowly with a considerable amount of dialogue and then having the silent color pages where time flies. Thanks so much for bringing us this beautiful work.
    Happy New Years everyone.

  32. Would you happen to upload Memories of Emamon in direct files by any chance? I’m enjoying the new layout by the way! I was momentarily confused but it’s cute!

  33. Happy New year! :)

I too am also having trouble downloading. This is the error I am getting..

    ” Firefox can’t establish a connection to the server at 64.62.145.165:6969 ”

    Same situation with IE. Help?

    • Nomad Soul says:

The torrent currently has 22 seeds, so it must be working for some people. One solution is to download the torrent (right click + save) to your computer and launch it there. If that doesn’t work either, well, check the project page for the direct download link. ;)

  34. Kotonoha gumi: I salute you!!! Great selections, great translations, great quality :)

  35. NonNuclear says:

man, what a beautiful manga, i definitely love this manga.
my thanks to you goys who worked on this!!!!
