A Child Is Born
Some of you might have noticed that we recently added the category Alternative to our demographic selections. Given our tagline one would expect this section to be fairly crowded. Sadly, that’s not the case. One of the reasons why Kotonoha never fully embraced alternative manga is because I wasn’t sure if scanlation is the right medium to promote this kind of manga, which tends to be disproportionately more appreciated in book form than on any computer screen. On the other hand, maybe this is one of the instances where you have to build an audience for it first. Which is why I intend to beef up this new division with some “uniquely interesting” projects just to see if my assumptions were right.
We already invited you for a stroll through Usamaru Furuya’s Garden, today we’d like to introduce you to God’s Child, the latest work from the enigmatic Nishioka siblings. It tells the twisted and gruesome life story of a sociopath and serial killer. Usamaru Furuya himself called this book “supremely terrifying and beautiful” which should be reason enough for you to check it out. Keep in mind, however, that this is a very mature manga that has some deeply disturbing scenes. Imagine the main character as Dexter Morgan without a conscience and a moral code and you have a vague idea of what awaits you.

what an awesome manga!!
Thank you.
My favorites on Kotonoha – Kiichi, Shigurui, Meguru, this manga.
Keep coming more. And more Meguru too. Thanks.
This looks like a fairly twisted work, which goes without saying if Usamaru Furuya enjoyed it. Throw in a Dexter reference and I have to check it out.
Thanks for daring to be bold in a somewhat stagnant manga world.
Glad to see more Alt. Manga getting scanlated. The Nishioka’s contribution to the the AX collection was good, definitely want to read one of their full volume stories.
Thank you for translating something from Nishioka Kyoudai! I really love “Kono Sekai no Owari e no Tabi” so far, so this should be great. Alternative manga definitely have a place in my heart.
Good luck with your future projects.
I’d say it looks pretty damn good on a computer screen, but then again I love the style of the Nishioka sibings in any format (“A Broken Soul” was the first story I read upon purchasing the first Ax collection). Thank you for picking up this series; I eagerly look forward to the rest!
Just What the Doctor Prescribed ^-______-^
p.s. Mangascreener and Hawks started one of their projects long time ago (http://www.mangascreener.com/project.php?id=80), any thought about that?
I read it again just now. This time, I read slowly and just enjoy the arts and this alt vibe.
Very amazing is the art. it’s like reading a book of death with egyptian artwork.
Pitch dark and pale clean white contrasting and synchronizing…like something cold and creepy waiting in the bush.
Detailed art work on lines, curves and dots with bright white background, which beautifully shapes the empty and twisted theme of the characters. Mesmerizing, hypnotizing and fantasizing.
sidenote:
And last time I felt so catched by manga artwork is shigurui. It has very very good artwork, which, however, is of a different theme from god’s child — intensely striking with bloodthirsty narrative splendid lines and carefully picked elite words. Very very strong artwork with vivid illustrations about our hidden imaginative terror.
(However, I, for one, however, didn’t enjoy the miyori forest artwork. seems like unwittingly un-proportional people drawings to me.)
Pardon my poor english. The awesomeness of this manga could have been described a lot more. All in all, cheers for the great work. Thank you so much, kotonoha.
Now this is more like it… perhaps my tastes are a bit far on the weird end of the scale but Wolfsmund just wasn’t twisted enough to be enjoyable. This on the other hand… yummy.
PS: describing the content as “mature” feels a bit too PC for me, why not be frank about it and just say it’s sociopathic and perverse?
It is really awesome (as almost everything on your site) I can not wait for more!!!
Yep, this is going on my mindfcuk manga list : )
This manga is fun!!!
I am extremely glad Kotonoha’s putting out new scanlations. I guess you aren’t anywhere close to dying!
Wow, the artwork is absolutely amazing! Unfortunately I can’t say the same for the characters and story which strike me simply as repulsive and uninteresting.
Does the plot go anywhere or does it just kind of indulge in the morbidity of the subject matter?
Loved it, keep up the good work! Thank you very much.
thank you very much for this release. It was amazing. I hope you finish the whole thing. Also, it would be great if you would do more stuff from the Nishioka siblings since they are really great but really really hard to find.
So far I read his story in AX anthology and I’m keen to read more of him, good choice you made
Sorry to bother you with this, might have to also leave a comment elsewhere… I’ve been waiting for the last chapter in “Garden” for a long time, and wondering what happened… did I miss it somewhere? was there an announcement pertaining to its release? has it been shelved?
I’m sorry if I missed any earlier posts about this, but if it isn’t too much trouble, could someone fill me in? Thanks!
